The War Against Darkness

photo by Judy Mattson
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints..."
                                                                         (Eph:12-18 KJV)

We are at war.  Whether we want to acknowledge it or not there is a war going on. The principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world aim to make you subject to them and not to God. They will try and persecute you and you will utterly fail unless you recognize that it is not your neighbor that is battling you. It is the darkness that is trying to extinguish the light.

You can not prevail standing on your own truth. The only truth that  ultimately prevails over evil is the Word of God who is Jesus the Christ. So before you begin your day arm yourself with the armor that God has provided you with. Take up the sword of the Spirit. Immerse yourself in the word of God. Get on your knees and pray. Communicate with God throughout the day for he is your strength and salvation.

"The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies."
                                                                         (Psalm 18:2-3)

In Times Of Trouble God Is With You

Photo by Pr. Judy Mattson
The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.

Behold, the Lord God will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God.
                                                                                  (Isa 50:4-10 KJV)

When it is said that the Lord will help us it does not necessarily mean our lives will be all peaches and cream.  It means he will be with us in the times of trial. The Lord will comfort us and give us the strength to stand under the unjust scrutiny and persecution that is directed at us. Sometimes we will see relief from the trials immediately. At other times it may take some time to see our way out of darkness that surrounds and threatens us. Know this: God is with you and for you, trust in the name of the Lord and you shall see the light even as those who condemn you unjustly shall wax old like a garment.

Christians will see persecution from even family and friends. They will be some who will try to extinguish the light of Christ that shines within and through you. Have no fear. Jesus told us that even as he would despised so shall his followers be despised.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you."
                                                                                         (John 15:18)

Jesus was despised by many. He was persecuted and killed because he was feared; because he was even hated. Yet, he lives. He rose from the grave and because he lives all who believe in him shall also live. On the night he was betrayed and arrested he had told his disciples:

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also."
                                                                                       (John 14:18-19)

God grant everyone who is being troubled unjustly comfort and peace by the power of the Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus our Savior and Lord we pray. Amen.
