Stand On What Is Right And Good

"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?."

There have been more than a few times that I have been quite confrontational when it comes to injustice. When others were shrinking back and warning me that I should too for safety's sake, I advanced. I did indeed consider the worst case scenarios before I advanced. What is the worst thing that could happen to me? What is there to fear? Nothing, not even death. There is so much more to life than what we see or hear or feel in this world. I have eternal life.

When considering a new venture; whether it be a new job or investing in a project or a person or whatever challenge the day might bring; again, the same question: "What have I to fear?" Nothing. Life in this world is temporary. It will all pass. I have eternal life.

Jesus knowingly went forward to the cross; to his death, that we might live. He could have gone in the other direction. He could have. But, he did not. He did not shrink back from saving the world; even though much of the world would reject him. He did not pretend that everything in the world was okay. He was willing to give his life because the world was not okay.

Do not fear. Our Father in heaven loves you. Believe this. Know that you too have nothing to fear. You will be much more able to attempt to make radical changes within yourself and in the world around you with the knowledge that God is with you and for you. The world may abandon you. You may even lose many things in this world that you now treasure. But, there is nothing to fear. By faith, you have received eternal life! By faith in Christ you have inherited your place in the Kingdom of God.

May God help us to always stand in His truth; in His Way, no matter what possible dangers may lay before us. Following in the "Way" means to stand on the truth; doing justice out of love for others. Micah reminds us:  "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (Micah 6:8)

May God help us to always remember that we have nothing to fear in doing what is right for through God's own Son, Jesus the Christ, we have eternal life.

One Body

"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."

We may be many; yet, we are all one in Christ. We are united in His Body as we abide in him and he in us. We, who are members of this Body of Christ have been called and equipped for service in order that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Do you see what that means? Although our good works contributes nothing toward our salvation; we are called to serve the whole body according to the gifts that have been given to us as individuals for the edification and growth of the body of Christ, who is the Church, who is Jesus the Christ. 

We must all serve in unity, according to the will of God, with the mind of Christ, who is our head, in order for this maturity to happen. What I've witnessed all too often is that when one person tries to do it all nothing much gets accomplished. Too many frying pans in the fire at one time being handled by one person and something is liable to get left undone or burned. Many congregations and even denominations are like that. We equip only a few for service and growth. If there is any growth it is very slow. That is because some of the members of the body of Christ aren't working.

Consider the times that you may have injured an arm or a leg, maybe you had a lung infection or other illness that affected one part of your body. Did that one member of your body not slow you down; maybe, even stop you from doing anything? 

We are all members of one body, meant to work in unity and unison so that the whole body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and knowledge and Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

So lets get with it and equip all of the saints! Train the members of the body so that together we might grow in Christ.

Gifts To Serve

Climb Down From Your Tree

Climb down from your tree

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

"Zacchaeus was a wee little man." I cannot even begin to count the number of children I have taught the words of this song to. 

Personally, I prefer the translation from the KJV over the NIV, "And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature." (19:6) They King James describes Zacchaeus more fully than the NIV does. Zacchaeus was of little stature not only in physical height; but, in social stature as well. He was a tax collector and had made himself wealthy by cheating his own people. He was not a popular fellow. No one in the crowd that day was going to move out of his way so that a man like him could see Jesus. In order to get a glimpse of Jesus he climbed a tree to get a look at him from a distance. Jesus knew of Zacchaeus' desire to see him and so he arranged to make it up front and personal for him. He told Zacchaeus: "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 

Today, (and every day) Jesus wants to be welcomed into your home. He does not care what the world thinks about you. He does not care what you may or may not have done. He wants to be welcomed into your home. 

If you want to see Jesus; if you truly want to get to know him more personally, just climb down from whatever tree that you've chosen to watch Jesus from afar from and welcome Him into your life.
