Vengeance Is God's

"God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet."
                                                                          (Nahum 1:2-3 KJV)

Nahum prophesies against Nineveh. He warns that His enemies (in this case the people of Nineveh) will not go unpunished.

In reading some of these prophesies it sounds awfully vengeful and hurtful. Understand that vengeance is the LORD's to take and while it may appear to be really bad news to those who worship false idols and persecute those who worship the LORD, it is good news to the people of God. Those who find themselves attacked and persecuted by God's enemies have no other place to turn for hope and salvation except to the LORD and to His promise that He will deliver them from the hands of their enemies.

He will deliver us! It is the LORD who saves! Thanks be to God!

Promises

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. (Hebrews 6:13-15 NIV)

There are times when we feel like we stuck a whirlwind of chaos. We may wonder if there is any real purpose to anything; if we'll ever see the sunlight again; if there is any good for us in the future. But, God has promised us an awesome life in His presence for all eternity. There are days when we may not feel like He's any where around. But, God keeps His promises. It took some time for Abraham to see the fulfillment of the promise of descendants. But, he waited patiently and received the promise.

Trust in the Lord. He promises "that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) Have patience and wait on the Lord and you will see all His promises fulfilled.
