Choosing The Wrong Way
The clever see danger and hide;
but the simple go on, and suffer for it.
(Proverbs 22:3 NRSV)
We are free to do as we please. We are free to do what is good for us as well as what is not good for us. But, we must understand that whatever it is that we choose to do there will be consequences. Every action that we take moves us forward in a specific direction. Sometimes, that direction is good for us and for the people around us. Sometimes, that direction takes us to places we would not choose to go and we suffer for it.
There is so much suffering in this world. Some, of which, we cannot avoid. Some, of which, we could avoid by going in the other direction to avoid danger; to avoid the suffering.
A lot of our suffering and trouble could be avoided if we would but follow in the way that the Spirit of Christ shows us.
May God bless you with the wisdom to recognize and the courage to follow in His Way.

Correcting a Mocker
"Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes
the wicked incurs abuse. Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate
you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. Instruct the wise and they
will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning."
(Prov 9:7-9 NIV)
Believe me, I have received my share of insults by those who prefer not to walk on the straight path. I have learned, over time, that there are times when it makes no sense to correct someone. If they are corrected they will only argue or throw a temper tantrum. There are times when it is best just to say nothing more and walk away. It is better to walk away than to end up in a dispute that you will not win and you will end up carrying any ill feelings that you gained during that discussion out into the rest of the world. The rest of the world doesn't deserve that.
There is a whole world out there that needs and desires to hear the Good News. Why allow a mocker or a wicked one, who refuses to hear, to steal the time that could be better used to help those who are wise enough not to refuse help?
I am not saying that there is never a time to correct a mocker or rebuke the wicked. Jesus certainly incurred insults. As Christians, so shall we. There are times when even the mocker should be corrected and the wicked rebuked. If there is danger to others, it definitely needs doing. These things must be done from time to time. Wisdom will help you know when the time is right. But, focusing in on the one who mocks the LORD, trying to drag them onto the path of righteousness should never become the center of your life. Do not allow scoffers to drag you down and off the path the LORD has prepared for you. If they will not hear the truth, then it may be time to shake the dust off your feet (Matt 10:14) and walk away, whether it is family, friend, or foe. You can help no one, if your whole life is spent trying to help one whose whole goal is to drag you down into the muck and mire with them.
There is a whole world out that there yearning for some Good News, multitudes that need healing and actually desire it, that will listen and be made whole. Go... and proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom through Jesus Christ, our LORD. Go and proclaim the Good News to all people. But, remember it is not us but the Word, who is Jesus the Christ, that saves. Once the Word has been shared, there is not much you can do for the mocker, but continue to pray for them and trust the Spirit of God to do what the Spirit does. Be careful that you do not become embroiled in thinking that with persistence you can save them. Wisdom will guide you as your remember that it is only Jesus who saves.

Rescue Me!
"Rescue me from the mire,
do not let me sink;
deliver me from those who hate me,
from the deep waters."
Psalm 69:14 NIV
On one of the islands in front of my home in Aura there is a small spot of sinking sand. It is a little over a foot wide; yet, it's a bit unnerving to accidentally step into it. As one's ankles and then calves become engulfed in sand you will not tarry. You will step out of it as quickly as possible and change your course just as fast. I do not know how much of a person this sinking sand would swallow if one chose to test it. I have never desired to find out.
Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. We go in ways that are dangerous to ourselves and may even be active in leading others in the wrong way, as well. We stray from the path that Jesus prepared for us and purposefully attempt to travel the path of the unrighteous. There are many dangers on this path that lead us away from our Father's house. Sinking in mucky, uncharted swamps is only one of them.
When we find ourselves in danger of sinking in the mire it is time to change course. It is time, to ask for God's help to get back on the path that He has prepared for us.
If you find yourself alone and sinking fast know there is one who can rescue you. There is only one who can save you. Ask and He will lead you on the path of eternal life in His Kingdom.

Covenant of Hope
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” (Genesis 9:13-16 NIV)
I have been listening to "Over the Rainbow" by Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwoʻole a lot lately. Iz was thirty-eight when he died in 1997. He had suffered many health problems during his life. In spite of his many health problems during his life, his music, especially this song, was filled with hope and with life. His music lives on.
God made a covenant with His people with the sign of the rainbow. He made a new covenant with us through the blood shed for us through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son. There is always hope because we have Jesus as our Lord and our Savior.
As Hurricane Irma threatens the lives of property and many people, there is only one place that I know that I or anyone can go to in times like this to find comfort and reassurance. Only, at the feet of Jesus, can we find comfort and hope. Only at the feet of Jesus can we know a peace when danger is near.
May God grant comfort and peace to all who fear the coming days in the remembrance of the promise of life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Jesus Calms The Disciples And The Storms
One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Luke 8:22-25 NIV
Jesus calms the disciples and the seas. He commands even the winds and the waters. They listen to him. But, there is something else we need to remember. The storm did not begin until they were out on the sea with Jesus.
Following Jesus is no guarantee that there will not be storms in your life. In fact, it might guarantee even a few more. If you truly follow Jesus you will face obstacles and opposition of all kinds. Jesus never promised that we would not have troubling or stormy times. Only that with him, we would weather them. We would live. We can live in peace knowing that the one who has power over all things is with us always.
There is no need to fear the storms. The one who commands the winds and the waves is with you and for you. But, sometimes, you will need to experience a few storms on the sea before you can reach the other side.

Thou Shalt Not Kill!
The Fifth Commandment.
What does this mean?--Answer.
We should fear and love God that we may not hurt nor harm our neighbor in his body, but help and befriend him in every bodily need [in every need and danger of life and body].
What does this mean?--Answer.
We should fear and love God that we may not hurt nor harm our neighbor in his body, but help and befriend him in every bodily need [in every need and danger of life and body].
Many years ago, while we were living in Rota, Spain, a young Marine was released from Spanish prison. His crime had been that he had witnessed a taxi cab driver being beaten and he had not gone to his aid.
So many times witnesses to crimes will not only not aid the victim; they do not even have the courage or integrity to come forward as witnesses so that the suspect can be duly prosecuted. We don't like to make enemies. We may fear for our own safety or we might think that the crime was justified or maybe we just don't care; so we do nothing.
We learn that the fifth commandment goes beyond commanding us to not personally kill anyone; but, that we are to befriend and even defend those who are in any danger.
May God help us to love enough to be willing to step forward and help and befriend our neighbors in every need.

Speak The Truth
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 NIV
So here's the bottom line, to the best of my ability and with the help of God, I will not compromise the Word of God. Jesus said: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) I will not preach another way. I will not agree with you, in order to gain your favor or to add mere numbers to the church on earth, that there are many paths. I will not encourage the false teaching that we can be saved by anything other than faith in the one who lived and died and lives again for us; that is Jesus the Christ, our Lord and Savior.
If I refuse to speak to please "itching ears," I lose nothing. You lose nothing. The truth is to our benefit. But, if I acquiesce, both of us will find ourselves in danger of losing eternal life. No matter what the consequences the world might bring by pleasing God rather than man; nothing could be worse than losing our eternal souls if we chose the way of the world before His Way.
With the help of God, I will follow in The Way for I cannot live and would not choose to live without Him.
May God lead us in the way, the truth, and the life of our Lord, Jesus the Christ.
