My Spirit Rejoices In |
And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
(Luke 1:41-47 KJV)
Even in his mother's womb, John the Baptist leaped for joy in the presence of Jesus who was still in Mary's womb. John; Elizabeth the mother of John, and Mary the mother of Jesus were filled with joy for the gift of Jesus that God was giving to the world.
John, Elizabeth, and Mary all recognized what a great thing God was about to do. It is almost Christmas. Do we recognize and rejoice over this great gift that God has given us? Or, maybe we've come up with a greater priority in our lives than Jesus? And... how do we find ourselves during this season of Advent? Are you a bit depressed over the state of the world or are you rejoicing for the gracious gift of a baby born in a stable so long ago sent to us to set us free from the powers of sin, death, and of the devil?
God has done great things for us. Let us recall them and rejoice in his favor!
