For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. (1 Peter 3:18a NRSV)
He suffered in order to bring you to God. He did not suffer so that we could be rich here on earth. He did not suffer so that we could be famous or even a little popular. He did not suffer so we could have everything we ever desired. He suffered in or to bring us to God.
He suffered so that we who had no access to the Kingdom of God might have access. He suffered so that we might be reconciled to God and to one another by the blood that he shed on the cross for us.
He suffered that you might be forgiven your sins and be reconciled to God for all of eternity.
