Message Of The Cross

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

                                                                           (1 Cor 1:18-24 NRSV)

I often listen to other preachers on the internet. Some are very good. Others seem to think the message of the cross is foolishness. I guess that they think that there are better things to preach about than the cross of Christ. There is, of course, morality that they can preach about and some do. But, morality will not save you. You cannot work your way into heaven by your good deeds. Getting rich is also a favorite topic; but, money cannot save your soul. You cannot buy your way into heaven. What good will money do for you when you have breathed your last breath?

I do not care what the day is; whether it is Easter or Christmas or Pentecost or any day in between. There is only one message that I want to hear and that is that I am and you are saved by faith alone in Christ alone. There is nothing more important for any of us to hear than the proclamation of Christ crucified for you. The message of the cross is not foolishness. Wise men and women will hear it and be saved by faith.

If you do not hear from the person who is trying to convince you to join a congregation, a fellowship, or whatever that "Jesus is Lord" (1 Cor 12:3) then it would be wise for you to find a fellowship that proclaims the truth of Christ crucified for you. If Jesus is missing from the fellowship than it is nothing more than a social club. Social clubs cannot reconcile you to God our Father. Only the blood of Christ can do that.

Do not let the wisdom of the world guide you away from Christ. Let the Holy Spirit guide you into eternal life with and in Christ.

God's Peace - Pr. J
